About

A brief glimpse at the idea, the mission and the person.

Born in 1988, the German unification shortly thereafter meant that Sebastian Mai’s formative memories were that of extremely rapid development and change – about 40 years of development happened in almost-real time.

These impressions created a highly inquisitive mind that was soaking up all knowledge it could.

At 4-5 years old he would be passionate about the disassembly and analysis of any and all household and electronic items he could get his hands on. At age 11, he was able to completely service home computers and started maintaining home IT infrastructure.
A lot of the required information being available in English pushed his language skills very early and started to open his horizons for other cultures.

With a strong technical background and education, he decided he didn’t want to be an engineer: he wanted to bridge technology and commerce between cultures. Thus, he decided to add to his technical degree one in economics and languages to start his career on a well-rounded and solid base.

This decision allowed him, during his career, to fulfil key roles bringing not only companies together but also helping internal departments pull in the same direction.
After only one year of working at his job, he was sent to Singapore to train Sales Engineers and provide technical-commercial support to the Asian, East European and American teams.

Meanwhile, he kept learning more.
Whilst designing automotive parts, electronics and home appliances mainly for his own use, as a pastime, he began importing and distributing automotive components from Japan and the USA, gathering B2C knowledge as well as strenghten international business and supply chain expertise.
The goal was getting hands-on with a wide variety of products to gather valuable knowledge in product design.

The trajectory his work and passion were taking meant that he would end up working at a highly innovative manufacturer of high-end laser machine solutions with a strong emphasis on precision and customisation. He’d quickly become able to conceptualize both production workflow as well as applicable machine concept design as well as switch from 2D to 3D CAD.

When a distribution company reached out asking for support establishing their subsidiary in the People’s Republic of China, he was ready.

While the Covid-19 pandemic was ongoing, he managed to get the project back on track and moving forward again. Devising solutions and a localization strategy, as Executive Director he managed to create and establish the investor’s fully-functional branch as part of the supply chain of some of the top automotive suppliers worldwide.

It was at this stage that his vision bore fruit: Being able to leverage strong experience as well as his own products and patents, he managed against all odds to establish the business. After handing this turnkey solution to the key on-site team he’d trained for the purpose, the agreed job was done.

He would briefly continue working in his role as CTO in battery development and production while deepening his understanding of the Asian mentality, culture and business until returning to his home country of Germany to be near his family.

Now, thanks to his extensive understanding and network in engineering, production and supply chain, Sebastian applies his expertise creating solutions – big or small – on his own.

It may be a bit old-school but when he gives his word, he stands behind it. Thousands of people have trusted him for years and he firmly believes that integrity, wisdom and kindness are what made his success possible.

When it all comes down to it, one thing hasn’t changed, though: He wants to make things – better.
